Personalized Children's Books in Finnish
Suomi
For Finnish families, whether in Helsinki, Tampere or Oulu, or raising children in Stockholm, London or Toronto, Finnish often lives in bedtime stories and in summer days with mummo and vaari. A picture book in Finnish where your own child is the hero gives a young reader growing up between languages a reason to open a Finnish book on their own.
At Joonoo.art you upload a photo, choose a theme and one of 15 illustration styles, and we write and illustrate an original story starring your child. Bring in brothers, sisters, parents, or mummo and vaari if you like, up to five people in one book. With Finnish as the story language, the whole book is written in Finnish, from the title to the last page, with ä and ö in place. Names are spelled exactly as you type them and take their normal Finnish endings.
The sample below, Mustikkametsässä, follows three siblings through a late-summer day with their grandparents: baskets of blueberries in the spruce forest, a blue mouth, a woodpecker and a squirrel, and warm blueberry pie with vanilla sauce on the porch. It was written in Finnish from the first page. Every book starts with a free preview, then you choose a digital PDF or a printed book.

Aino ottaa sisaruksiaan kädestä, ja yhdessä he seuraavat Vaarin ääntä takaisin polulle.

Vaari tulee vastaan ja lapset juoksevat helpottuneina hänen luokseen. He näyttävät ylpeinä täysiä korejaan ja kertovat jännittävästä seikkailustaan.

Is the whole book in Finnish?
Yes. The title, every page of narration and the dialogue are in Finnish. Names are spelled exactly as you type them and take their Finnish case endings, as in any Finnish story: in the sample, Eetu becomes "Eetun" ("Eetu's").
Do ä and ö print correctly?
Yes. The fonts used for the PDF and the printed book cover every Finnish letter.
Can mummo and vaari read it to my child?
Yes. The book doesn't mix languages, so anyone who reads Finnish can read it aloud from start to finish.
Do I have to fill in the form in Finnish?
No. You answer the questions in English and choose Finnish as the story language. You can also type your story idea in Finnish.
