About joonoo.art
Who makes joonoo.art, how your book is made, and how we look after your family's photo.

Saro Saravanan, Founder
I built joonoo.art for my granddaughter before I built it for anyone else. For forty years my work has been building systems people trust with what matters most to them. At Fidelity Investments I was chief architect for NetBenefits, where millions of people manage their retirement savings. Later I led engineering for TSA PreCheck and the TSA CAT system that checks travellers' IDs at airport security, and I hold U.S. patents in identity verification. So your family's photo is handled the way I'd want my own family's handled: used only to make your book, kept private, and deleted automatically.
How we make your book
We use AI to write your story and draw your family from your photo. No illustrator draws your pages, and no one at joonoo looks at your photo or your pages unless you ask us for help or we need to fix a technical problem. We'd rather tell you that up front than have you find out later.
What happens to your photo
We find the faces in your photo on our own servers. Then your photo goes to the trusted AI services that draw your book and check each page. It is used only to make your book. We don't use it to train AI, and we use our providers' business settings that keep it out of their training too. They keep it only briefly, for safety checks, and never longer than 30 days. On our side, your photo is deleted automatically 30 days after your book is delivered, or 30 days after you start if you don't buy. Email support@joonoo.art and we'll delete it sooner. Our Privacy Policy lists the companies we work with.
AI and artists
AI picture-makers learned to draw by studying huge numbers of pictures, many made by artists who were never asked and never paid. Courts and governments are still deciding whether that's fair, and many illustrators feel strongly that it isn't. We understand why. Here is what we do about the part we control. We never ask the AI to copy a living artist or a studio, and we remove those requests if someone types one in. Our styles are broad traditions, like watercolor, impressionist painting, anime and comic strips, that belong to everyone. We never call our books hand-drawn. If you'd rather have a book drawn by a person, we think that's a lovely choice, and a local illustrator is worth looking for.
Who owns the book
The book is yours to keep, print, share with your family and read for years. One honest note: under current US law, pictures made by AI can't be owned by anyone under copyright, including us. Your photo and the words you write, like the dedication, are always yours.
Energy
Drawing one book uses roughly as much electricity as boiling a kettle, about 10 to 120 watt-hours depending on the book. That's small next to printing and posting it. We don't claim to be carbon neutral.
If something looks wrong
AI makes mistakes, like an extra finger or a mixed-up face. If a page isn't right, tell us and we'll help.
If someone used a photo of your child without asking
Email support@joonoo.art with the link or book code. We'll delete the photo and the book's pictures, usually within a few days. You don't need an account.
Your photos stay private
- Photos you upload for a book are kept in private storage and deleted automatically 30 days after your book is delivered. If you don't buy the book, they are deleted 30 days after you create it. If you buy a book that we have not been able to deliver, they are deleted 180 days after you pay.
- Free-cover photos are deleted automatically after 30 days.
- You can ask us to delete them sooner at any time (support@joonoo.art).
