Print Specifications

One PDF per book: single A5 pages with 3 mm (0.125") bleed, cover included, 12, 20 or 28 pages. Laid out for A5 (148×210mm) saddle-stitched softcover, the format we print ourselves.

Bleed:
3 mm (0.125") on every edge
PDF page size:
154.5 × 216.3 mm (438 × 613 pt), i.e. trim size plus bleed
Crop marks:
None. Trim 3 mm off every edge
Page count:
12, 20 or 28 pages (story pages + 3, padded with blank pages to a multiple of 4)
Cover:
In the same file: page 1 is the front cover, the last page is the back cover. No spine, no separate cover file
Blank pages:
Page 2 (inside front cover), plus padding just before the back cover
Colour:
RGB (sRGB images), full colour. Not CMYK, no output intent: convert in your RIP
Resolution:
Illustrations about 300 ppi at print size. The joonoo.art back cover artwork is about 170 ppi
PDF type:
Standard PDF (not PDF/X). Fonts and images embedded
Layout:
Front cover full-bleed. Story pages: illustration on the top three quarters, text on white below

How It Reaches You

When:
Only when the customer adds the Print-Ready PDF option at checkout and chooses to send it to your shop. It is sent once their book is finished
How:
An email to your shop address with a download link (no attachment). The link opens the book page, where you download the print-ready PDF
Sizes:
One size only: A5. We do not supply 6×9, 8×10, hardcover or perfect-bound files

Saddle stitch (the page count is always a multiple of 4)
Interior:
170-200 gsm coated paper, matte or silk
Cover:
Optional heavier stock (around 300 gsm) for the outer sheet: pages 1, 2 and the last two
Output:
Print at 100% (actual size), never "fit to page"

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need special equipment?

Any digital or offset press that prints A5 with bleed and can saddle stitch. The PDF has 3 mm (0.125") bleed but no crop marks, and it is RGB, so your RIP does the CMYK conversion.

How do I set pricing?

You set your own prices for printing. The customer pays you directly. We only charge for the digital book creation.

What paper should I use?

We suggest 170-200 gsm coated paper for the interior, with an optional heavier (around 300 gsm) outer sheet for the cover. The cover is part of the same file, so there is no separate cover PDF.

Which sizes and bindings do you supply?

One: an A5 file laid out for saddle stitch. We do not supply 6×9, 8×10, hardcover or perfect-bound files.
